Known issues (updated 25th June 2004)

If you think you have found one then please let us know - It may not otherwise be addressed.

Numerical Overflows (25th June 2004)

HaloSim sometimes crashes due to numerical overflows when singular solar altitudes (e.g. zero) are used.

Resolved
- v3.6 has increased error trapping.

Windows XP does not unzip files correctly (14th January 2003)

The unzip facility in Windows XP has bugs and does not recognise certain files with legal file names. It might not unzip all the files of v3.5.0+ causing installation to fail.

Resolved
- File packs issued 14th Feb 2003 mostly avoid the XP bug. WinZip is still recommended.

Non English "Regional settings" (Pyramid maker v2.0 - 24th October 2002)

Some users with their Windows settings set to other than English had problems with the pyramidal pyramid file maker.

Resolved
- Version2.1 issued 24th October 2002 and incorporated in both download packs overcomes these.

Pyramidal crystal simulations (v3 and earlier versions - 9 Oct 02)

Crystals having one or more of their three sections set to zero height can produce a signal that there have been a large number of numerical errors.

Resolved - The new pyramidal file generator with HaloSim overcomes this problem and the new file pack comes with updated crystal files. Remake any other old files with the new generator.

Faint halos from multiple internal reflections (v3.2 and earlier - 9 Oct 02)

A side effect of an upgrade caused the relative intensities (not the positions) of some faint and rare arcs produced from multiple internal reflections to be distorted. Resolved in v3.5.
