| Rainbow on the ground. Judy Mosby caught this low bow near Lovelock, Nevada at 4.21pm PDT on May 7, 2003. At that instant the sun was 39º high and that explains the bow's position. Rainbows are about 42º in radius and centered on a point directly opposite the sun. Thus this bow's centre was 39º below the horizon and its top stood up only 3º above it. | Indian Ocean Bow between Madagascar and Zanzibar seen by Mila Zinkova (site) in April 2004. There is a hint that the bow is "broken", the lowest part at right appears to have a smaller radius consistent with it being made by sea spray rather than rain. ©2004 Mila Zinkova, shown with permission. |
