UK halo display 9th February 2001

                                                  Description          HALO site

At top there is an unusually bright and
colourful supralateral arc.

From the base upwards the
image shows a faint 22° halo, a bright
upper tangent arc and then possibly a
faint and rare Parry arc.

Compare this with the
simulation at the bottom
of this page.

The display was fading at
this stage but the parhelic
circle, supralateral?arc
and intense upper tangent
arc remain.

Further analysis is needed
to finally decide between
a supralateral arc and
46° halo, although the
former seems the most
likely.

At top a 46° halo (also possibly
a supralateral arc) touches a
circumzenithal arc.

From the base upwards the
image shows a faint 22° halo, an
upper tangent arc and then a
rare Parry arc.

The circumzenithal
arc (appearing to
curve upwards in
the image) touches
the 46° halo.

Finally, a simulation using a fisheye view projection.   This includes some very
rare halos in addition to those reported.
